THE GREATS - An Adapted Drama Feature
The Greats, written by Deborah Ellis, tells the compelling story of a 15 year-old boy on the verge of crime. With a troubled father and a deceased mother, he finds himself in jail, contemplating suicide. It is there that he starts to see visions of his grandfather and other great grandfathers, who teach him valuable lessons about the history and legacy of Guyana. This narrative offers a unique opportunity to explore both personal growth and cultural heritage.
Deborah Ellis has more than thirty books to her credit. She has won the Governor General’s Literary Award, the Ruth Schwartz Award, the Middle East Book Award, Sweden’s Peter Pan Prize, the Jane Addams Children’s Book Award, and the Vicky Metcalf Award for a Body of Work. She has received the Ontario Library Association’s President’s Award for Exceptional Achievement, and she has been named to the Order of Canada. In 2017, The Breadwinner debuted as a feature animated film, (4CSAs, nominated for a Golden Globe and an Academy Award).
